“The Tom Murrin Full Moon Performance Festival,” April 17 through 27, 2014, at LaMama is a celebration of the wildly inventive works of the incomparable Tom Murrin, a.k.a. Alien Comic. A pioneering performance artist of the East Village scene, Murrin turned trash into treasure in his uniquely entertaining shows, but he began as one of the “first generation” La Mama playwrights and continued to present dramas throughout his life.

The centerpiece of the festival will be productions and readings of his provocative, political, and surreal comic plays. La Mama will host two full productions of Murrin’s most engaging plays, as well as a series of readings from the trove of shorter works. The festival will also feature exhibitions highlighting the full range of Murrin’s work, his hand painted masks, collages and paintings, with panel discussions of his work and its place in New York Avant-garde theater history. Screenings of his street performance videos and Murrin’s monthly full moon shows will round out this extravaganza with his unique brand of performance art – work so committed and imaginative it bordered on Shamanistic possession.

Upon the conclusion of the final performance of “Myth or Maybe Meth,” a Cardboard Parade will assemble in front of LaMama and proceed to Dixon Place for the presentation of “The Tommy’s” and TomFest closing party. Newcomers are invited to participate in Murrin’s legacy, a love-letter to the New York City streets and Murrin’s everlasting muse, Luna Macaroona.
